5 Tips for Choosing Coffee Table Decor
If you know me, then you know I am very unafraid of changing things around in the house. I play around with different table arrangements, moving plants here and there, I even rearrange chairs and tables; just to get a new perspective. I’m always asking myself, “Could this look better over there?” or “Where would this work the best?” I honestly can not help myself! But with this habit, I have found certain looks that look better than others, and I tend to keep them that way or go back to it time and time again.
One look that I found difficult to master was how to decorate the coffee table. SO HARD! But finally, I have it mastered and I have discovered the 5 rules necessary for decorating your coffee table!
Coffee Table Books: I love me some large, beautiful, decorative coffee table books. I mean, they are called COFFEE TABLE books, so let’s make them do their job! No coffee table is complete without a few chunky books that intrigue us and share some of our passions. I prefer all of the books to be the same color so that there is some cohesiveness to the tables look. I also love being able to read the titles clearly. Remember to always layer the books from largest on the bottom to smallest on the top and be sure that they compliment each other. I am currently using this book, this book and this book for my coffee table and they work beautifully!
Games: I think adding a game to your coffee table decor brings some playfulness to your home. It is a great way to invite not only your family members but guests as well to play a game and have some fun! I find games to be a great way to get to know others better and it’s such a charming way to spend time together. I love my tic tac toe game, but another great game to place on the table is dominoes. Both these games have clean lines and won’t clutter your coffee table. So perfect!
Flowers: Maybe its just the girly part of me, but I believe a coffee table is not complete until there is a flower arrangement placed upon it. What do you think? The flowers add some height and weight to the tables layout. For mine, I placed some hydrangeas from my garden in a white round bowl and TAH-DAH, they look so inviting and add warmth and character to your coffee table. Flowers are a must for customizing your tables look.
Balance: Balance is another must in my book for creating a stunning coffee table layout. There has to be some balance when you look at your coffee table. If there is a circular item, have it diagonal to something else round. If you have a stack of books, be sure its diagonal from a square game, a decorative box, or another stack of books. This will make your coffee pleasing to the eye.
Use a Tray: A tray is a great way to add more items to your coffee table while keeping the clutter to a minimum. A tray adds character and dimension while keeping your coffee table tidy and organized. Use a silver or gold tray to add shine and richness, or add a bone tray to add some fun prints to your decor. I love to use trays for all things decorating, but they work especially well for creating a beautiful coffee table.
Have you had trouble decorating your coffee table? I get it, it’s tough to get it right and feel like its actually complete! I hope these tips help. I know I’ve used them and I truly am in love with the decor and layout of my coffee table. It’s where the family and I spend most of our time, so Its important that you like that space. Let me know what you think!
